TLDR
In this paper, the authors derived a formula for the mixed mode energy release rate of adhesive joints in terms of local stress concentrations σmax and τmax determined by beam theory, which enables the use of simple beam-type calculations for fracture predictions without the need for a detailed three-dimensional analysis.

Nonlinear finite element analysis of stress and strain distributions across the adhesive thickness in composite single-lap joints

TL;DR: In this article, a geometrically nonlinear, two-dimensional finite element analysis has been performed to determine the stress and strain distributions across the adhesive bond thickness of composite single-lap joints.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finite Fracture Mechanics model for mixed mode fracture in adhesive joints

TL;DR: In this paper, a failure model for single lap joints is proposed that is based on Finite Fracture Mechanics (FFM) for assessing the crack initiation load of bonded joints.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fatigue crack growth in bonded DCB specimens

TL;DR: In this article, fatigue crack growth tests were conducted on double cantilever beam bonded specimens with the aim of characterizing an adhesive for structural applications, and the role of loading frequency was also addressed.

Stiffness behaviour due to fracture in adhesively bonded composite-to-aluminum joints II. Experimental ☆

TL;DR: In this article, a composite-to-aluminum single-lap joint was tested at room temperature and −40°C to verify the theoretical model proposed in Part I. The results showed that the joint stiffness is more affected by the response of the adherends to the test temperature than by the modulus of the thin adhesive layer.

A review of Winkler's foundation and its profound influence on adhesion and soft matter applications

TL;DR: A review of Emil Winkler's beam on elastic foundation analysis with a focus on applications to adhesion science, highlighting classical works that utilize the model as well as recent usages that extend its scope.

An augmented double cantilever beam model for studying crack propagation and arrest

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved analytical model for the double cantilever beam fracture specimen is developed by treating a finite length beam which is partly free and partly supported by an elastic foundation.
