Preferential Adsorption and Co-nonsolvency of Thermoresponsive Polymers in Mixed Solvents of Water/Methanol
TL;DR: In this paper, a new statistical-mechanical model for competitive hydrogen bonds, the degree of hydration and methanol binding, excess degree ΔθE of solvent binding, preferential adsorption coefficients Γ, LCST spinodal lines, and cloud-point depression ΔTcl are theoretically calculated and compared with the experimental results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preferential Solvation and Its Effect on the Lubrication Properties of a Surface-Bound, Brushlike Copolymer
TL;DR: In this paper, the collapse-stretching transition of a surface-bound, brushlike copolymer, poly(l-lysine)-graft-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLL-g-PEG), and the consequence of such transitions on the frictional properties of this coating were investigated by colloidal-probe lateral force microscopy in liquid environments on the nanoscale.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chiral solvation as a means to quantitatively characterize preferential solvation of a helical polymer in mixed solvents
TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between the structure of the cosolvent and the extent of the preferential solvation was found for mixtures of (S)-1-chloro-2-methylbutane and a number of achiral or racemic cosolvents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Collapse of one polymer coil in a mixture of solvents
F. Brochard,P. G. de Gennes +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the size of a polymer chain P dissolved in a mixture of two solvents A and B, which are both good solvants of P, but which are close to a consolute critical point Tc, is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of molecular weight on the refractive index increment of polystyrenes in solution
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the variation of refractive index increment d n d c with molecular weight using solutions of monodisperse polystyrenes and showed that the linear relationship holds only for low molecular weights.
