Piezoelectric Mass‐Sensing Devices as Biosensors—An Alternative to Optical Biosensors?
TL;DR: The future will show whether the quartz-crystal microbalance will assert itself against established label-free sensor devices such as surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy and interferometry.

Electrochemical oxide film formation at noble metals as a surface-chemical process
TL;DR: In this article, the formation of the oxide films can be examined in detail by recording the distinguishable stages in the film's electrochemical reduction in linear-sweep voltammetry which is sensitive down to OH O fractional coverages as low as 0.5% and over time-scales down to 50μs in experiments on time-evolution and transformation of oxide films.

In situ interfacial mass detection with piezoelectric transducers.
Michael D. Ward,Daniel A. Buttry +1 more
TL;DR: Advances in piezoelectric methodology in the last decade now allow dynamic measurements of minute mass changes at surfaces, thin films, and electrode interfaces in liquid media as well as for mass measurements in vacuum or gas phase.

Quartz Crystal Microbalance Study of DNA Immobilization and Hybridization for Nucleic Acid Sensor Development
TL;DR: In this article, the immobilization of two 30-mer oligonucleotides, one biotinylated (biotin-DNA) and the other having a mercaptohexyl group at the 5'-phosphate end (BS1-SH), onto modified gold surfaces has been examined using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM).

Potential dependence of lead and silver underpotential coverages in acetonitrile using a piezoelectric crystal oscillator method
TL;DR: In this article, the underpotential deposition of lead and silver on gold was studied in acetonitrile as a solvent, and the rde, the rrde and the quartz crystal microbalance techniques were used.

Some improvements in quartz crystal circuit elements
TL;DR: The characteristics of the Y-cut quartz crystal plate are discussed in this article, where it is shown that by rotating a plate about the X axis special orientations are found for which the frequency spectrum is simplified, the temperature coefficient of frequency is reduced practically to zero and the amount of power that can be controlled without fracture of the crystal is increased.
