Gedunin, a limonoid from Xylocarpus granatum, inhibits the growth of CaCo‐2 colon cancer cell line In Vitro
Shaikh Jamal Uddin,Lutfun Nahar,Jamil A. Shilpi,Mohammad Shoeb,Tomasz Borkowski,Simon Gibbons,Moira Middleton,Maureen Byres,Satyajit D. Sarker +8 more
TL;DR: Two limonoids, gedunin and 1α‐hydroxy‐1,2‐dihydrogedunin, the latter being new, have been isolated from the bark of Xylocarpus granatum by reversed‐phase preparative HPLC, and the structures were confirmed by spectroscopic means.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bioactive compounds from Cornus officinalis fruits and their effects on diabetic nephropathy.
Wei Ma,Kai-Jin Wang,Chen-Shu Cheng,Guo-Qing Yan,Wei-Li Lu,Jing-Fang Ge,Yong-Xian Cheng,Ning Li +7 more
TL;DR: The results suggested that loganin and its derivatives were the active compounds in Cornus officinalis fruit (Shanzhuyu) on diabetic nephropathy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Level of catechin, myricetin, quercetin and isoquercitrin in buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench), changes of their levels during vegetation and their effect on the growth of selected weeds.
Jana Kalinova,Nadezda Vrchotova +1 more
TL;DR: Buckwheat as row material for functional foods could be a significant source of another antioxidant, isoquercitrin, which was proved on seven plant species by HPLC analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
An unusual homoisoflavanone and a structurally-related dihydrochalcone from Polygonum ferrugineum (Polygonaceae)
TL;DR: The homoisoflavanone 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-3-(9-hydroxy-phenylmethyl)-chroman-4-one and its structurally related 2',4',6'-trihydroxymethyl-beta-Hydroxy- dihydrochalcone along with the known pashanone, flavokawin B, and cardamonin or alpinetin chalcone were isolated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Free radical scavenging activity of some Bangladeshi plant extracts
TL;DR: In this article, a number of plants from different geographical origins have been shown to possess antioxidant activity and some of them have been developed as natural antioxidant formulations for food, cosmetic and other applications.

Role of phenolics in plant evolution
TL;DR: Tony Swain was in the forefront of such studies and applied his extreme originality and enthusiasm to show that biochemical diversity, engendered by species interactions, holds the key to understanding the evolution of plants.

The Biochemical Systematics of Flavonoids
TL;DR: One of the very first examples of a significant correlation between chemistry and taxonomy was the discovery of a relationship between sectional classification and flavonoid heartwood constituents in the genus Pinus.

Phenylvaleric acid and flavonoid glycosides from Polygonum salicifolium.
TL;DR: The flavonoid glycosides demonstrated scavenging properties toward the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical in TLC autographic assays.
