TLDR
It was concluded that the Radford nomogram calculation corrected only for intubation or an inflow of 70 ml/kg/min was a reliable guide for determining the inflow requirements to maintain mild hyperventilation.Abstract:
A study was carried out on a modification of the Mapleson D system to determine accurately the patient's inflow requirements during controlled ventilation. This study utilized the Radford Nomogram as a guide. It was concluded that the Radford nomogram calculation corrected only for intubation or an inflow of 70 ml/kg/min was a reliable guide for determining the inflow requirements to maintain mild hyperventilation. This system is dependent upon inflow only if the respirator minute ventilation exceeds the inflow.read more

Size, myths and the clinical pharmacokinetics of analgesia in paediatric patients.
TL;DR: The future investigation of drugs used in paediatric practice must also include an appropriate size model in order to differentiate age- related factors from size-related factors, which change with age.

TL;DR: Results obtained show that a highly predictable PaCO2 may be obtained by adjusting the fresh gas inflow according to body weight in patients weighing over 40 kg and it is suggested that the Bain anaesthetic breathing system may qualify as a universal breathing system.

TL;DR: A lung model study described the factors determining the carbon dioxide tension during controlled ventilation with a T-piece system and derived a simple two part formula of fresh gas flow requirements for two levels of arterial carbon dioxide in children.

Carbon dioxide elimination during spontaneous ventilation with a modified Mapleson D system: studies in a lung model.
TL;DR: It was demonstrated that the modified Mapleson D circuit (Bain) with low fresh gas flows determined according to body weight is a partial rebreathing system, which will produce potentially dangerous hypercarbia using a Bain circuit with a fresh gas flow of 100 ml/kg/minute.

A streamlined anaesthetic system.

TL;DR: The main advantages of this circuit are that it is light in weight, adaptable to both adult and paediatric anaesthesia, allows complete airway control at all times, and permits the institution of positive pressure ventilation.
