TLDR
Sera from normal and androgen-treated female guinea pigs obtained during the estrous cycle, pregnancy and puerperium were analyzed for binding affinity toward progesterone, testosterone and cortisol by multiple equilibrium dialysis using radiolabeled steroids.
Abstract
Sera from normal and androgen-treated female guinea pigs were obtained during the estrous cycle, pregnancy and puerperium. They were analyzed for binding affinity toward progesterone, testosterone and cortisol by multiple equilibrium dialysis using radiolabeled steroids. Cortisol levels were also determined. A marked increase in binding activity for all 3 steroids, especially progesterone and testosterone, was found during pregnancy; the cortisol concentration rose concomitantly. By the end of the puerperium all parameters measured had returned toward estrous cycle levels. Testosterone treatment of the cycling females greatly lowered the cortisol-binding activity of the serum as well as the peripheral cortisol values, and resulted in a slight decrease of the binding activity for testosterone. Sera from pregnant guinea pigs receiving testosterone had lower peripheral cortisol levels than the pregnant controls; the binding activity toward progesterone and testosterone was generally greater than in the untre...

Endocrine control of parturition

TL;DR: This chapter aims to bring together some of the abovementioned theories to show that, for example, the role of the fetus in the initiation of parturition and the concept of progesterone withdrawal may be part of the same mechanism.

Investigate electrochemical immunosensor of cortisol based on gold nanoparticles/magnetic functionalized reduced graphene oxide

TL;DR: Compared the developed immunoassay with commercially available enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, the proposed method showed good precision, acceptable stability and reproducibility, indicating the immunosensor could be used for the sensitive, efficient and real-time detection of cortisol in real samples.

TL;DR: It is asserted that not only must a critical period be considered in evaluating developmental influences on sexual performance but so too must the steroidal environment in terms of type and dosage.

TL;DR: The results suggest the existence of limited capacity binding sites for progesterone in the mesencephalon and diencephalon as well as the pituitary.

Birth order and sibling sex ratio in two samples of dutch gender-dysphoric homosexual males

TL;DR: Two studies were undertaken to confirm the previous findings that homosexual men in general tend to have a later than expected birth order and that extremely feminine homosexual men also tend toHave a higher than expected proportion of brothers (i.e. a highersibling sex ratio).
