TLDR
The effect of different implant designs on osseointegration was evident especially at early stages of bone healing, and both time and implant system interaction significantly affected the bone-to-implant contact.Abstract:
Purpose Commercial implants differ at macro-, micro-, and nanolevels, which makes it difficult to distinguish their effect on osseointegration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the early integration of 5 commercially available implants (Astra OsseoSpeed, Straumann SLA, Intra-Lock Blossom Ossean, Nobel Active, and OsseoFix) by histomorphometry and nanoindentation. Materials and methods Implants were installed in the tibiae of 18 beagle dogs. Samples were retrieved at 1, 3, and 6 weeks (n = 6 for each time point) and were histologically and nanomechanically evaluated. Results The results presented that both time (P 0.80; H: P > 0.75) or implant system (E: P > 0.90; H: P > 0.85). Conclusions The effect of different implant designs on osseointegration was evident especially at early stages of bone healing.read more

Osseointegration: Hierarchical designing encompassing the macrometer, micrometer, and nanometer length scales
TL;DR: A proportional inconsistency in findings hitherto encountered warrants a call for appropriate multivariable study designing to ensure that adequate data collection will enable osseointegration maximization and/or optimization, which will possibly lead to the engineering of endosteal implant designs that can be immediately placed/loaded regardless of patient dependent conditions.

Osseointegration of metallic devices: Current trends based on implant hardware design
TL;DR: The present manuscript presents how the interplay between surgical instrumentation and device macrogeometry not only plays a key role on both early and delayed stages of osseointegration, but may also be key in how efficient smaller length scale designing (at the micrometer and nanometer scale levels) may be in hastening early stages.

TL;DR: The nanotopographical featured surfaces presented an overall higher host-to-implant response compared to the microtextured only surfaces and presented significantly higher-rank hardness and elastic modulus for the MB compared to AA at all time points tested.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a Berkovich indenter to determine hardness and elastic modulus from indentation load-displacement data, and showed that the curve of the curve is not linear, even in the initial stages of the unloading process.
