Human blood platelet monoamine oxidase.

G.G.S. Collins, +1 more

- Vol. 20, Iss: 2, pp 289-296
TLDR
The differences between the physicochemical properties of platelet MAO and isoenzymes from other anatomical sites suggests that the platelet enzyme is unlikely to provide a satisfactory index of in vivo activity in the whole organism.

Journal ArticleDOI

Reduced Monoamine Oxidase Activity in Blood Platelets from Schizophrenic Patients

TL;DR: Direct examination of cellular MAO in schizophrenic patients might be of interest and the evidence that MAO-inhibiting drugs may on occasion contribute to exacerbations of psychotic behaviour is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Another look at the monoamine oxidases and the monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs

Norton H. Neff, +1 more
- 01 Jun 1974 -
TL;DR: This chapter discusses the monoamine oxidases (MAO) and the MAO inhibitor drugs and it appears that MAO B is more sensitive to heat than MAO A and the thermostability of MAO preparations was dependent on the presence of phospholipid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differences in Platelet Enzyme Activity between Alcoholics and Nonalcoholics

TL;DR: The inhibition of monoamine oxidase by ethanol was significantly higher in the platelets of alcoholics than in the controls, and the basal activity of adenylate cyclase was the same in platelets from the alcoholics and the controls.
Journal ArticleDOI

Substrate- and inhibitor-related characteristics of human platelet monoamine oxidase.

TL;DR: It is suggested that platelet MAO consists of essentially one distinguishable form of MAO which most closely resembles the MAO type B found in other tissues.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of the molecular weights of proteins by Sephadex gel-filtration.

P Andrews
- 01 May 1964 -
TL;DR: The results are similar to those of previous studies, where the objective was to establish a cause-and-effect relationship, rather than a straightforward relationship between the number of cells and the content of the molecule.
Journal ArticleDOI

The histochemical demonstration of monoamine oxidase activity by tetrazolium salts.

TL;DR: Localization of the formazan to autonomic ganglia and fibers, chief cells of the gastric fundus, mucosal epithelium of the duodenum and certain specific zones of the renal tubules by means of the tryptamine-tetrazolium technique was confirmed as indicating monoamine oxidase activity by identical localization using the hydrazone precipitation technique of Koelle and Valk.
