Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis of glycoproteins.

TL;DR: The remarkable diversity of techniques available for the construction of glycoproteins is presented and it is unlikely to be enough to "just make it", and in this regard the timing of glycosylation and assembly strategy in any synthesis may too become a vital issue.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carbohydrate vaccines in cancer: Immunogenicity of a fully synthetic globo H hexasaccharide conjugate in man

TL;DR: Observations of several patients who had evidence of disease relapse restricted to a rising biochemical marker, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), indicated that a treatment effect could occur within 3 months after completion of the vaccine therapy, and the concept of using PSA slope profiles in assessing early treatment effects in biological therapies such as vaccines awaits further validation in phase II and III trials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Toward automated oligosaccharide synthesis.

TL;DR: The methods developed to tackle the problems of carbohydrate-mediated biological processes are described, with particular focus on the issue related to the development of the automated synthesis of oligosaccharides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthetic and Immunological Studies on Clustered Modes of Mucin-Related Tn and TF O-Linked Antigens: The Preparation of a Glycopeptide-Based Vaccine for Clinical Trials against Prostate Cancer†

TL;DR: The syntheses of two tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens, Tn and TF, have been achieved using glycal assembly and cassette methodologies, and vaccines containing 27−KLH and 30−pam plus QS-21 are being tested in patients with prostate cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immunization of metastatic breast cancer patients with a fully synthetic globo H conjugate: A phase I trial

TL;DR: The vaccine was well tolerated, and no definite differences were observed among the three formulations, and globo H will constitute one component of a polyvalent vaccine for evaluation in high-risk breast cancer patients.
