Immunochemical studies on Shigella dysenteriae type 10 bacterial polysaccharide.

TLDR
On graded hydrolysis and Smith degradation, the O-somatic polysaccharide isolated from Shigella dysenteriae type 10 bacteria yielded four oligosaccharides which were characterized by methylation studies and contributed maximally to the immunological specificity of the macromolecule.

Gas‐Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry in Methylation Analysis of Polysaccharides

TL;DR: New methylation procedures and the combined application of gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry for qualitative and quantitative analysis of mixtures of methylated sugars permit methylation analysis of polysaccharides to be performed more accurately, faster and with less material than previously as discussed by the authors.
