Toward Solar Fuels: Photocatalytic Conversion of Carbon Dioxide to Hydrocarbons

TL;DR: A solar energy based technology to recycle carbon dioxide into readily transportable hydrocarbon fuel (i.e., a solar fuel) would help reduce atmospheric CO2 levels and partly fulfill energy demands within the present hydrocarbon based fuel infrastructure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fractionation of Carbon and Hydrogen Isotopes in Biosynthetic Processes

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the isotopic relationships between organic compounds produced by a single organism, specifically their enrichments or depletions in 13C relative to total-biomass carbon, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer vegetation index to study atmosphere‐biosphere exchange of CO2

TL;DR: In this article, the satellite data were combined with field data on soil respiration and a global map of net primary productivity to obtain the seasonal exchange of CO2 between the atmosphere and the terrestrial biosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of the photosynthetic characteristics of three submersed aquatic plants.

TL;DR: Light- and CO(2)-saturated photosynthetic rates of the submersed aquatic plants Hydrilla verticillata, Ceratophyllum demersum, and MyriophyLLum spicatum were less than 5% of those achieved by terrestrial C(3) plants, and the low photosynthetics rates correlated with low activities of the carboxylation enzymes.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Close Relationship Between Net Photosynthesis and Crop Yield

Israel Zelitch
- 01 Nov 1982 -
TL;DR: Increasing the rates of net photosynthesis and translocation and enlarging the storage capacity by selection and breeding may bring about large increases in yield, especially in C3 species.

Regulation of Soybean Net Photosynthetic CO2 Fixation by the Interaction of CO2, O2, and Ribulose 1,5-Diphosphate Carboxylase

TL;DR: Kinetic properties of soybean net photosynthetic CO(2) fixation and of the carboxylase and oxygenase activities of purified soybean ribulose 1, 5-diphosphate carboxyase were examined and showed equality of kinetic constants, consistent with the notion that the same enzyme catalyzes both reactions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photosynthetic Carbon Fixation in Relation to Net CO2 Uptake

TL;DR: Variation in C, Photosynthesis, and CO2 Assimilation Studies wih Isolated C, Plant Chloroplasts, is studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phosphoglycolate production catalyzed by ribulose diphosphate carboxylase.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the phosphoglycolate produced in this reaction is the source of glycolate metabolized in photorespiration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Specific inhibition of the cyanide-insensitive respiratory pathway in plant mitochondria by hydroxamic acids.

TL;DR: These inhibitors make it possible to isolate the two respiratory pathways and study their mode of action separately, and enhance an electron paramagnetic resonance signal near g = 2 in anaerobic, submitochondrial particles from skunk cabbage, which appears to be specific to the alternate oxidase and thus provides a means for its assay.
