Experimental and numerical analysis on formation of stable austenite during the intercritical annealing of 5Mn steel

TL;DR: In this paper, the growth of austenite nucleated at the ferrite lath boundaries was analyzed for intercritical annealing at 650°C for various durations up to 144h in 5.5% Mn-containing steel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hot dip galvanising of transformation induced plasticity and other intercritically annealed steels

TL;DR: In this paper, a low Si transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steels have high Si levels, which makes it difficult to coat them satisfactorily by hot dip galvanising.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recrystallization and formation of austenite in deformed lath martensitic structure of low carbon steels

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of prior deformation on the processes of tempering and austenitizing of lath martensite was studied by using low carbon steels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructure and Formability of Aluminum Bearing TRIP-Aided Steels with Annealed Martensite Matrix

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of aluminum content on microstructure, ductility and formability of advanced high strength low alloy TRIP-aided ferrous sheet steels with annealed martensite matrix were investigated in order to realize hot-dip galvanization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Austenite memory effect in 1 Cr–1 Mo–0·75V(Ti, B) steel

S. T. Kimmins, +1 more
- 01 Nov 1983 -
TL;DR: In this paper, a study of the austenite nucleation and growth characteristics of bainitic and martensitic 1 Cr−1 Mo−0·75V(Ti,B) steel has been made.

Tempering of steel

G. R. Speich, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an understanding of the processes involved in the tempering of iron-carbon martensites and how they are affected by alloying elements, and how these processes overlap and occur on such a fine scale.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Martensite Transformation in Carbon Steels

TL;DR: In this article, it was found that the martensite in low-carbon steels forms predominantly as long needles parallel to $\langle111\rangle_M$ while in the high- carbon steels it forms as plates internally twinned on a fine scale.

Carnegie scholarship memoirs

TL;DR: The Carnegie Scholarship Memoirs as mentioned in this paper contains six papers which differ very widely in merit and interest, but on the whole it represents a considerable amount of important research work, however, the practice of publishing these papers in a separate volume tends to relegate them to oblivion and at all events robs them of the advantages of discussion even by correspondence, thus lessening materially the value of the work done under the Carnegie scheme.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism of austenite formation in heating steel

TL;DR: When steels having a crystallographically ordered initial structure (martensite) are heated, the heating rate strongly affects the structure of the austenite produced as discussed by the authors, which can be explained by the crystallographic affinity between the Austenite nuclei formed, and the original structure.
