TLDR
Migrations which were unlikely to be due to the avoidance of inbreeding were made by males with above average reproductive activity into troops with more oestrous females than the prior troop, and females showed a preference for transferred males over natal males, and for males who could not have been their father over males whocould have been.

The Evolution of Cooperation

TL;DR: In this paper, a model based on the concept of an evolutionarily stable strategy in the context of the Prisoner's Dilemma game was developed for cooperation in organisms, and the results of a computer tournament showed how cooperation based on reciprocity can get started in an asocial world, can thrive while interacting with a wide range of other strategies, and can resist invasion once fully established.

Mating systems, philopatry and dispersal in birds and mammals

TL;DR: It is argued that the direction of the sex bias is a consequence of the type of mating system, and Philopatry will favour the evolution of cooperative traits between members of the sedentary sex.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inbreeding effects in wild populations.

TL;DR: This work reveals that levels of inbreeding depression vary across taxa, populations and environments, but are usually substantial enough to affect both individual and population performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Ecological Model of Female-Bonded Primate Groups

TL;DR: A model is presented to account for the evolution of FB groups in terms of ecological pressures on female relationships and suggests that relationships in most FB groups are ultimately related to feeding competition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mammalian mating systems.

TL;DR: Much of the variation in mammalian mating bonds and systems of mate guarding can be attributed to differences in these three variables: the effect of male assistance in rearing young and to the defensibility of females by males.

Nonparametric statistics for the behavioral sciences

Sidney Siegel
TL;DR: This is the revision of the classic text in the field, adding two new chapters and thoroughly updating all others as discussed by the authors, and the original structure is retained, and the book continues to serve as a combined text/reference.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Genetical Evolution of Social Behaviour. I

TL;DR: A genetical mathematical model is described which allows for interactions between relatives on one another's fitness and a quantity is found which incorporates the maximizing property of Darwinian fitness, named “inclusive fitness”.
Journal ArticleDOI

Observational study of behavior: sampling methods.

TL;DR: Seven major types of sampling for observational studies of social behavior have been found in the literature and the major strengths and weaknesses of each method are pointed out.

The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex

TL;DR: In this paper, secondary sexual characters of fishes, amphibians and reptiles are presented. But the authors focus on the secondary sexual characteristics of fishes and amphibians rather than the primary sexual characters.

TL;DR: Part I. Sexual Selection (continued): Secondary sexual characters of fishes, amphibians and reptiles, and secondarySexual characters of birds.
