TLDR
The presence of bridges between tubules and vesicles in the postmitotic stem of HeLa cells and in the phragmoplast of Haemanthus katherinae is demonstrated.
Abstract
Fine interconnections or \"cross-bridges\" have been observed between cytoplasmic microtubules in many different organisms (1, 3, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13) . Recently, similar bridges have been noted between the microtubules of the spindle apparatus in dividing plant and animal cells (4, 6, 7, 11, 14) . Increasing attention is being directed toward intertubule bridges, since they may play an important role in microtubule-mediated motility (1, 8, 9) . In this brief note we present our observations on the structure of arms and bridges on the microtubules of the spindle apparatus in cultured human cells (HeLa and WI-38) and in the endosperm of the African blood lily, Haemanthus katherinae . We demonstrate the presence of bridges between kinetochore tubules, between continuous tubules, and, during later stages of mitosis, between the tubules of the interzone . We also show bridges between tubules and vesicles in the postmitotic stem of HeLa cells and in the phragmoplast of Haemanthus .

Ultrastructure and function of growth cones and axons of cultured nerve cells

TL;DR: Dorsal root ganglion nerve cells undergoing axon elongation in vitro have been analyzed ultrastructurally and it is suggested that this filamentous network could provide the structural basis for the initiation of lateral microspikes and perhaps of collateral axons, besides playing a role in axonal transport.

The periodic association of MAP2 with brain microtubules in vitro.

TL;DR: A heat-stable fraction highly enriched for one of the MAPs, MAP2, devoid of MAP1, has been purified from calf neurotubules, lowering the critical concentration for tubulin assembly to 0.05 mg/ml and demonstrating a striking axial periodicity.

Identification of dynamin, a novel mechanochemical enzyme that mediates interactions between microtubules.

TL;DR: Findings indicate that the 100 kd protein is part of a novel mechanochemical enzyme, which the authors term "dynamin", that may mediate microtubule sliding in vivo.

The Kinesin-Related Protein, Hset, Opposes the Activity of Eg5 and Cross-Links Microtubules in the Mammalian Mitotic Spindle

TL;DR: Through microtubule cross-linking and oppositely oriented motor activity, HSET and Eg5 participate in spindle assembly and promote spindle bipolarity, although the activity of HSET is not essential for spindles assembly and function in cultured cells because of centrosomes.
