Investigation of factors contributing to pedestrian hit-and-run crashes in India

TLDR
In India, hit-and-run crashes account for about 14% of total accidents (MoRTH 2017) in India despite it being a cognizable offense under the Indian motor vehicle act of 1988 Hit and run crashes.

Spatio-temporal patterns in pedestrian crashes and their determining factors: Application of a space-time cube analysis model.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined big data on pedestrian-related crashes in Seoul from 2009 to 2018 using a space-time cube methodology and binary logistic regression analysis, and found that the trend in pedestrians killed or severely injured is decreasing with pedestrian environment enhancement projects and pedestrian safety measures in Seoul.

Examining the underlying exposures of hit-and-run and non-hit-and-run crashes

TL;DR: The hit-and-run literature is informed to suggest a contradiction to the assumption that leaving the crash scene may lead to more serious injuries, and an indirect approach is offered that can help to identify underlying factors and reduce bias, which can inform traffic safety methods and serve to propose effective safety countermeasures.

What affects pedestrian crossing difficulty at urban intersections in a developing country?

TL;DR: In this paper , a set of Ordered Logit models are developed to examine the impact of traffic exposures, road infrastructure, land use, spatial factors, and pedestrian-level attributes on pedestrians' perceived crossing difficulty.

Applying fast and frugal tree heuristic algorithm to identify factors influencing crash severity of bicycle-vehicle crashes in Tamilnadu.

TL;DR: From the results of the present study, FFT acts as a complementary tool to other complex machine learning algorithms such as support vector machines, random forest, logistic regression and CART for reducing the severity of bicycle-involved crashes at the planning and operations levels.

Identification of factors increasing the risk of pedestrian death in road accidents involving a pedestrian with a motor vehicle

TL;DR: In this article , the authors determined the factors influencing the formation of fatalities in road traffic accidents among pedestrians in acci-dents involving pedestrians and motor vehicles in the Silesian Voivodeship (Poland) in 2016-2021.

TL;DR: A set of mechanisms and procedures, including enhancements to the layer 3 routeing and signalling protocols ad MPLS forwarding that, when combined, provide the capabilities to provide traffic engineering capabilities in an optical IP environment are outlined.

Temporal instability and the analysis of highway accident data

TL;DR: In this article, the authors draw from research previously conducted in fields such as psychology, neuroscience, economics, and cognitive science to build a case for why we would not necessarily expect the effects of explanatory variables to be stable over time.

Road traffic deaths, injuries and disabilities in India: current scenario.

TL;DR: A clearly defined road safety policy, a central coordinating agency, allocation of adequate resources, strict implementation of proven and effective interventions and reliable information systems are urgently required to reduce the burden of road traffic injuries in India.

A logistic model of the effects of roadway, environmental, vehicle, crash and driver characteristics on hit-and-run crashes.

TL;DR: Drivers were more likely to run when crashes occurred at night, on a bridge and flyover, bend, straight road and near shop houses; involved two vehicles, two-wheel vehicles and vehicles from neighboring countries; and when the driver was a male, minority, and aged between 45 and 69.

Factors contributing to hit-and-run in fatal crashes

TL;DR: Results show that roadway functional class, routes, traffic flow, types of roadway section, speed limit, traffic control device, functioning of traffic control devices, lighting condition, roadway alignment and roadway profile are important determinants that engineers can target to reduce hit-and-run in fatal crashes.
