Ionic transitions hypersensitive to environment.
TLDR
In this article, it was shown that the so-called dynamic coupling mechanism of Mason, Peacock and Stewart, which was introduced to account for the peculiar hypersensitivity of the optical transitions of rare-earth ions with respect to their environment, is formally identical to an earlier proposed mechanism based on an inhomogeneous dielectric.Abstract:
It is shown that the so‐called dynamic‐coupling mechanism of Mason, Peacock and Stewart, which was introduced to account for the peculiar hypersensitivity of the optical transitions of rare‐earth ions with respect to their environment, is formally identical to an earlier proposed mechanism based on an inhomogeneous dielectric. Errors in the derivation of the dynamic‐coupling mechanism are corrected, and examples of the rare‐earth trihalides are considered.read more

Interpretation of europium(III) spectra
TL;DR: The trivalent europium ion (Eu3+) is well known for its strong luminescence in the red spectral region, but this ion is also interesting from a theoretical point of view as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: In this paper, the development of efficient light conversion molecular devices (LCMDs) based on lanthanide complexes is reviewed, with emphasis on the work of our group, who have adopted a strategy based upon both theoretical and experimental (synthesis and methodological) investigations.

The superposition model of crystal fields
D.J. Newman,B Ng +1 more
TL;DR: The superposition model was originally developed to separate the geometrical and physical information in crystal field parameters as discussed by the authors, and its success in the analysis of lanthanide spectra has paralleled by the success of the related angular overlap model in analysis of d-electron spectra.

Judd-Ofelt parameters and chemical bonding☆
TL;DR: In this paper, the three Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters for erbium(III) are given in 17 different environments, and the effect of covalent chemical bonding on the intensity is discussed.

Operator Techniques in Atomic Spectroscopy
TL;DR: In this paper, a comprehensive introduction to continuous groups for physicists and chemists is given. But it is not a complete overview of all the applications of group theory to the analysis of spectra.
