Mathematical modelling of dropwise condensation on textured surfaces
TL;DR: In this article, the authors focused on mathematical modeling of dropwise condensation process at multiple scales, including formation of drops at the atomistic scale, droplet growth, coalescence, instability, slide off and fall-off, followed by fresh nucleation of liquid droplets.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of automated angle-scanning, high-speed surface plasmon resonance imaging and SPRi visualization for the study of dropwise condensation
Shahab Bayani Ahangar,Vinaykumar Konduru,Jeffrey S. Allen,Nenad Miljkovic,Seong Hyuk Lee,Chang Kyoung Choi +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, an angle-scanning surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) instrument was used to visualize coalescence during dropwise condensation, and the results showed that the effect of the environment's temperature on reflectance was less than 1% when the incident angle was carefully chosen for SPRi with intensity modulation (IM).
Journal ArticleDOI
Condensation on Surfaces With Biphilic Topography: Experiment and Modeling
TL;DR: In this paper, a new surface topography is presented to enhance drop-wise condensation at low manufacturing costs. But, the current technologies are lacking either the necessary condensation enhancements or cost-effective, large-scale fabrication method.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dropwise condensation patterns of bismuth formed on horizontal and vertical surfaces
TL;DR: In this paper, a multiscale drop-wise condensation simulation of bismuth vapor on a subcooled hydrophobic surface is discussed, and the sensitivity of wall heat flux and wall shear stress to these ensuing velocities are delineated.
Book ChapterDOI
Modeling Dropwise Condensation
TL;DR: In this paper, a mathematical model based on three independent mechanisms of dropwise condensation is proposed. But the model is limited to the case where the condensate is only formed at individual nucleation sites.

An Essay on the Cohesion of Fluids
TL;DR: In this article, it has been shown that for each combination of a solid and a fluid, there is an appropriate angle of contact between the surfaces of the fluid, exposed to the air, and to the solid.
Book
Heat Exchanger Design Handbook
TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduce heat exchangers -introduction, classification and selection heat exchanger thermohydraulic and thermodynamic properties of heat exchange, and design of shell and tube heat exchange.
Book
Handbook of Heat Transfer Fundamentals
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a handbook on the fundamentals of heat transfer with a focus on conduction, convection, and radiation properties of materials, and provide a discussion of the relationship between convection and heat transfer.
