Late Holocene Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis Miller) woodlands in Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Western Mediterranean): Investigation of their distribution and the role of human management based on anthracological, dendro-anthracological and archaeopalynological data

TLDR
In this paper, the authors present a compendium of anthracological, dendro-anthracological and archaeopalyonological data with the objective of investigating the nature and distribution of Aleppo pine on the island of Mallorca and evaluating the possibility that human action could have resulted in the spread of this pine species during the first two millennia of permanent human occupation of the island (c. 2300 cal. BCE-1st-century ACE).

Anthropogenic impacts on vegetation landscapes and environmental implications during the Middle-Late Holocene in the Iberian Central Pre-Pyrenees: An anthracological approach

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors provided the anthracological results based on 1117 charcoal fragments from Cova Colomera in the Central Pre-Pyrenees (Iberian Peninsula).

Pollen influx and comparison with surface pollenin the east part of yinshan mountains

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors found that the diversities are obvious of pollen influx and pollen content among different vegetation types, even among different sample sites in the same vegetation type.

Taming Trees, Shaping Forests, and Managing Woodlands as Resources for Understanding Past Societies. Contributions and Current Limits of Dendro-Anthracology and Anthraco-Isotopy

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors present an approach for taxa growing in Western Europe combining different dendro-anthracological parameters, an anthraco-typological approach based on modern-day wood stands, identification of anatomical signatures revealing particular forestry practices, and stable carbon isotopes.

Long transient response of vegetation dynamics after four millennia of anthropogenic impacts in an island ecosystem

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors analyzed the spatio-temporal dynamics of vegetation in sa Dragonera island, which experienced a large environmental change ca. 4000 years ago by the arrival of humans.

The Nature of Mediterranean Europe: An Ecological History

TL;DR: In this article, the authors find that the aridity and barrenness of the Mediterranean region today is not abnormal in terms of its historic and prehistoric past, and identify the real threats to Mediterranean landscapes in the immediate future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Life histories of Mediterranean pines

TL;DR: The life history of Spanish pines and their relation to fire as the main disturbance factor in their ecosystems was analysed and a group of non- or weakly-serotinous populations seems to have evolved under a low-intensity fire regime where the best fitness corresponds to thick-barked individuals capable of surviving ground fires.
