Mass spectrometric sampling of flames: how ionic equilibria in flames produce sampling falsifications and “fake” ions, but provide kinetic and thermodynamic data on the reaction occurring

TLDR
In this paper, it was shown that if a positive ion reacts exothermally in a reversible reaction with a time constant briefer than ≈ 0.5 µs, that reaction will be equilibrated early in the flame and if the orifice is small, the equilibrium will be just fast enough to shift position to that for a temperature reduced in both the thermal boundary layer around the inlet, and in accelerating to the speed of sound.

Mass-spectrometric investigation of the anions and cations in a hydrocarbon flame doped with sulphur/fluorine additives

TL;DR: In this article, a fuel-lean, premixed, CH 4 O 2 flame at atmospheric pressure was doped with 0.2 mol% of SF 6 and 0.1mol% of triflic anhydride (CF 3 SO 2 ) 2 O. The main objective was to ascertain the ability of these sulphur/fluorine additives and their combustion products to scavenge free electrons by forming negative ions in the flame gas.
