Measurements of nonhomogeneous, directional mechanical properties of articular cartilage in tension.

TLDR
Nonlinear stress-strain relationships of the articular cartilage samples were mathematically approximated by exponential law similar to Fung (1967) and higher stiffness for the 0° specimens in the surface and middle zones was found.

Skeletal Tissue Mechanics

TL;DR: This poster presents a probabilistic procedure for estimating the mechanical properties of bone based on known mechanisms, including compressive forces, compressive strength, and the compressive properties of Bone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluid transport and mechanical properties of articular cartilage: A review

TL;DR: This review is aimed at unifying the understanding of cartilage viscoelastic properties in compression, in particular the role of compression-dependent permeability in controlling interstitial fluid flow and its contribution to the observed vis coelastic effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Depth-dependent confined compression modulus of full-thickness bovine articular cartilage.

TL;DR: The delineation of the depth‐dependent modulus provides a basis for detailed study of the relationship between the composition, structure, and function of cartilage in such processes as aging, repair, and degeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tensile properties of the inferior glenohumeral ligament

TL;DR: The tensile properties of the inferior glenohumeral ligament have been determined in 16 freshly frozen cadaver shoulders and the anterior pouch was found to be less stiff than the other two regions, perhaps suggesting that it is composed of more highly crimped collagen fibers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mesenchymal Stem Cells

TL;DR: The major challenges is to elucidate the mechanisms of differentiation, mobilization, and homing of MSCs, which are highly complex, which make them an attractive choice for possible development of clinical applications.

Elasticity of soft tissues in simple elongation

TL;DR: A theoretical framework is presented in which the elastic properties of soft tissues can be described and it is shown that the mathematical formulation works well also in reducing published data on the series element of the heart and striated muscles, and the skin.

Two-dimensional mechanical properties of rabbit skin. II. Experimental results.

TL;DR: The main features of biaxial stress-strain-history relations in relaxation tests and constant-rate-of stretch tests as well as their dependence on temperature are presented and discussed.

Mechanical properties of articular cartilage.

TL;DR: This chapter discusses the functions, mechanics, and mechanical properties of articular cartilage, the resilient tissue normally between 1 and 5 mm thick in humans that covers the articulating extremities of the bones at synovial joints.
Journal ArticleDOI

"Boosted lubrication" in synovial joints by fluid entrapment and enrichment.

TL;DR: A number of friction experiments were designed to investigate the extent to which the various modes of lubrication were present in physiological conditions and the features of normal jointubrication are described and the factors which encourage full fluid film lubrication are listed.
