In this paper, a steady-state method involving the use of a calibrated thermopile for determining the surface temperature of the oxide was developed for these measurements, and observed values of the thermal conductivity k0 range from 000625 to 00139 w cm−1 degc−1.
Abstract
Measurements have been made of the thermal conductivity of iron oxide layers in the `as-formed' condition for oxide thicknesses in the range 0027-048 mm over the temperature range 50-80°C. A steady-state method, involving the use of a calibrated thermopile for determining the surface temperature of the oxide, has been developed for these measurements. Observed values of the thermal conductivity k0 range from 000625 to 00139 w cm−1 degc−1, and are correlated as a function of oxide porosity P by the relation k0=00124±00018-915×10−5 P w cm−1 degc−1. Within the limited range of oxidation conditions used in the preparation of the specimens for this investigation, i.e. CO-CO2 gas containing up to 1200 p.p.m. by volume (v.p.m.) of water at temperatures from 400 to 600°C and pressures from 10 to 20 atm, there does not appear to be any correlation between the porosity and the oxidation conditions of the specimens.

Magnetic Nanofluid Applications in Electrical Engineering

TL;DR: In this paper, a superparamagnetic nanofluid (SMP-NF) was used as a coolant or as a magnetic medium in three electrotechnic devices: a power electric transformer TMOf 2-36 kV-40 kVA, at 50 Hz, a microactuator that implements the PWM principle, and in miniature planar spiral transformers, for galvanic separation or step-up/stepdown conversion.

Corrosion of austenitic steels in molten sulphate deposits

TL;DR: In this paper, a model for corrosion by an acid fluxing mechanism involving refractory metal alloy elements in the steels was proposed for predicting fireside corrosion resistance in coal-fired boilers, and a comparison of relative corrosion rates of a range of steels in laboratory tests, probe trials and service performance confirms the validity of the present model.

Bayesian inference of hidden corrosion in steel bridge connections: Non-contact and sparse contact approaches

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe approaches for inferring the presence and nature of hidden corrosion occurring between connection plies in steel truss bridges using both non-contact and very sparse contact inspection modalities.

Heat flux effects on oxidation rates and kinetics

D.M. Glover
- 01 Jan 1980 -
TL;DR: In this paper, an expression for the atom flux through an oxide scale growing on a metal subjected to a heat flux was derived for a particular case, demonstrating that the effects of heat flux on oxidation rates and kinetics can be profound.
