Measuring temporal variation of location-based accessibility using space-time utility perspective

TLDR
The results of the case study show that the proposed location-based space-time accessibility measures can well capture the temporal variation of accessibility, due to the dynamics both of traffic conditions and of individuals' intensities in performing activities at different times of day.

Evaluating spatial accessibility to healthcare services under travel time uncertainty: A reliability-based floating catchment area approach

TL;DR: A reliability-based two-step floating catchment area method is proposed to evaluate healthcare accessibility under travel time uncertainty, which generalizes the conventional 2SFCA measure by explicitly considering individuals' reliability constraints when scheduling visits to healthcare facilities in the face ofTravel time uncertainty.

Health research needs more comprehensive accessibility measures: integrating time and transport modes from open data

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the importance of using multimodal spatio-temporal accessibility measures when conducting research in urban contexts and propose a methodological approach for integrating different travel modes and temporality to spatial accessibility analyses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measuring and visualizing place-based space-time job accessibility

TL;DR: A new methodological framework for measuring and visualizing place-based job accessibility in space and time is presented that overcomes three limitations of gravity-based measures and is demonstrated in the context of a case study of the Tampa Bay region of Florida.

Spatial optimization of rural settlements based on the perspective of appropriateness–domination: A case of Xinyi City

TL;DR: Zhang et al. as mentioned in this paper constructed an analytical framework for rural settlement spatial optimization from the perspective of appropriateness-domination, and provided a spatial optimization scheme and development guidance of different rural settlements based on social dominance theory and central place theory through spatial cluster analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding travel time uncertainty impacts on the equity of individual accessibility

TL;DR: Results of this study demonstrate the capabilities of using spatiotemporal big data to examine the equity of accessibility in a disaggregated individual level and suggest that travel time uncertainties have negative impacts on accessibility of all people groups, but more serious impacts on disadvantaged people groups with a lower accessibility level.

How Accessibility Shapes Land Use

TL;DR: In this article, an empirical analysis of the residential development patterns illustrates that accessibility and the availability of vacant developable land can be used as the basis of a residential land use model.

Accessibility evaluation of land-use and transport strategies: review and research directions

TL;DR: A review of accessibility measures for assessing the usability of these measures in evaluations of land-use and transport strategies and developments is presented in this paper, using a broad range of relevant criteria, including theoretical basis, interpretability and communicability, and data requirements of the measures.

Transport and social exclusion: Where are we now?

TL;DR: The early 1990s and early 2000s witnessed a growing interest amongst UK academics and policy makers in the issue of transport disadvantage and how this might relate to growing concerns about the social exclusion of low income groups and communities.

Space-time and integral measures of individual accessibility: a comparative analysis using a point-based framework

Mei Po Kwan
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare the relationship and spatial patterns of these thirty accessibility measures using network-based GIS procedures and conclude that space-time and integral indices are distinctive types of accessibility measures which reflect different dimensions of the accessibility experience of individuals.
