TLDR
In this article, the authors investigated metabolic changes in human spermatozoa related to capacitation and found that hydrosalpinx fluid produced an increase in oxygen uptake in the presence of citrate and succinate while follicular cyst fluid produced modifications that could be related to functional capacitation.Citations

Mechanisms of Fertilization in Mammals
TL;DR: This chapter will discuss how mammalian spermatozoa prepare themselves for fertilization and how the spermatozosa and eggs interact during fertilization.
Journal ArticleDOI
The prostasome: its secretion and function in man.
Gunnar Ronquist,Isser Brody +1 more
TL;DR: An intact organelle, the prostasome, is secreted by the acinar epithelial cell of the human prostate gland and may be important for promoting forward motility of spermatozoa.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of mitochondria in energy production for human sperm motility.
TL;DR: The present study gives an overview of the current knowledge on the energy-producing metabolic pathways operating inside human sperm mitochondria and critically analyse the differences with respect to somatic mitochondria.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Intermediary Metabolism of the Prostate: A Key to Understanding the Pathogenesis and Progression of Prostate Malignancy
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that altered zinc accumulation is an important factor in this transformation of zinc-accumulating citrate-producing normal prostate epithelial cells tocitrate-oxidizing malignant cells in the process of malignancy.

Sperm attraction to a follicular factor(s) correlates with human egg fertilizability
Dina Ralt,Mordechai Goldenberg,Peter Fetterolf,Dana Thompson,Jehoshua Dor,Shlomo Mashiach,David L. Garbers,Michael Eisenbach +7 more
TL;DR: Evidence is obtained that attraction may be a key event in the fertilization process and may give an insight into the mechanism underlying early egg-sperm communication by showing that human spermatozoa accumulate in follicular fluid in vitro.

Fertilizing Capacity of Spermatozoa deposited into the Fallopian Tubes
TL;DR: The following experiment demonstrates that such a period of time in the female tract is required for the spermatozoa to acquire their fertilizing capacity.

Observations on the penetration of the sperm in the mammalian egg.
TL;DR: It is considered that the evidence so far put forward for the fertilization in vitro of mammalian eggs is inconclusive, and attempts made to effect the fertilizing of the mammalian egg in vitro are terminated.

Early stages of fertilization in vitro of human oocytes matured in vitro.
TL;DR: Human oocytes have been matured and fertilization by spermatozoa in vitro and there may be certain clinical and scientific uses for human eggs fertilized by this procedure.

In vitro capacitation of hamster spermatozoa by follicular fluid
TL;DR: When hamster epididymal spermatozoa were incubated in vitro in the presence of follicular fluid in Tyrode's solution for 3 hr or more, they became fully capacitated and displayed an extremely vigorous motility.
