Measurements of dielectric loss factors due to a Martian dust analog
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present results from dielectric measurements of CRC and the palagonitic Mars JSC-1 soil simulant from 0.2 to 1.3 GHz and from transmission measurements of radar penetration of CRC up to 12 GHz.
Book ChapterDOI
Chapter 2 Development and application of satellite retrievals of ocean wave spectra
TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of wave spectra predicted by WAM with spectra retrieved from ERS-1 on a global scale revealed that WAM overpredicted local windgenerated sea surface heights and underpredicted swell.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimate of the tropospherical water vapor through microwave attenuation measurements in atmosphere
Fabrizio Cuccoli,Luca Facheris +1 more
TL;DR: This work presents an in-depth statistical analysis of the relationship between the spectral sensitivity parameter and the water vapor content at different tropospheric layers and discusses the performance of a simple amplitude modulation transmit-receive system that could be adopted to provide the sensitivity measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis and applications of backscattered frequency correlation function
TL;DR: Analytical and experimental procedures are developed to establish a relationship between the complex frequency correlation function (FCF) of the backscatter and the radar and target attributes and it is shown that the effect of radar parameters can be expressed explicitly and thus removed from the measured correlation functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
L-Band response to freeze/thaw in a boreal forest stand from ground- and tower-based radiometer observations
Alexandre Roy,Peter Toose,Alex Mavrovic,Alex Mavrovic,Christoforos Pappas,Alain Royer,Chris Derksen,Aaron A. Berg,Tracy Rowlandson,Mariam El-Amine,Alan G. Barr,Andrew Black,Alexandre Langlois,Oliver Sonnentag +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, two L-band radiometers were deployed at a black spruce (Picea mariana) dominated boreal forest site; one unit above and one unit below the canopy to disentangle the microwave contributions of overstory canopy, and the ground surface on the FT brightness temperature (TB) signal.

A proposed spectral form for fully developed wind seas based on the similarity theory of S. A. Kitaigorodskii
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the data for the spectra of fully developed seas obtained for wind speeds from 20 to 40 knots as measured by anemometers on two weather ships.
Journal ArticleDOI
The relation of raindrop-size to intensity
J. Otis Laws,Donald A. Parsons +1 more
TL;DR: The applicability of such results to conditions of natural rainfall has been thrown in doubt as discussed by the authors, and the results have been found to be affected by the drop-size and velocity of the artificial rains applied.
Journal ArticleDOI
A well‐calibrated ocean algorithm for special sensor microwave / imager
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe an algorithm for retrieving geophysical parameters over the ocean from special sensor microwave/imager (SSM/I) observations, based on a model for the brightness temperature T(sub B) of the ocean and intervening atmosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new model for sea clutter
TL;DR: In this article, first-order scattering theory is applied to obtain sea clutter cross sections in terms of mean-squared height spectrum of the sea surface, and the results are in remarkably good agreement with observations for vertical polarization at P-, L-, C-, and X -bands.
