Abstract
Technologies of analytical and experimental modal analysis have been investigated for their application in damage detection of bridges. In the context of experiments performed on a typical highway bridge in North Carolina, various signals and signal-processed data that can be used for interrogation are presented. By introducing simulated failures in a highway bridge in Pennsylvania and in a number of laboratory bridge models and analytical models, experimental results are examined for their ability to detect faults.

Improved damage identification method based on modal information

TL;DR: In this article, a newly derived algorithm to predict locations and severities of damage in structures using changes in modal characteristics is presented, which improved the accuracy of damage localization and severity estimation results in the test beam.

Model-Uncertainty Impact and Damage-Detection Accuracy in Plate Girder

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of model uncertainty on the damage-prediction accuracy of a nondestructive damage-detection technique when applied to a model plate girder is assessed.

Modal Identification of Cable‐Stayed Pedestrian Bridge

TL;DR: In this article, the vibrations of a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge are measured and compared with a numerical model, and used to produce improved estimates of the structural properties of the bridge.

Damage Assessment Using Response Measurements

TL;DR: In this article, a cumulative plastic deformation damage function and a maximum deformation/cumulative dissipated energy damage function are used to evaluate the condition of damaged multistory reinforced concrete test structures and an actual structure damaged during an earthquake.
