Response of stiff piles in sand to long-term cyclic lateral loading
TL;DR: In this article, a series of laboratory tests were conducted where a stiff pile in drained sand was subjected to between 8000 and 60 000 cycles of combined moment and horizontal loading, and a typical design for an offshore wind turbine monopile was used as a basis for the study, to ensure that pile dimensions and loading ranges were realistic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Laterally loaded monopile design for offshore wind farms
Paul Doherty,Kenneth Gavin +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the state of the art in foundation design with current industry trends in offshore wind turbine construction, focusing on the American Petroleum Institute guidelines used by the offshore sector.

Inelastic Seismic Response of Extended Pile-Shaft-Supported Bridge Structures
TL;DR: In this paper, the inelastic seismic response of bridge and viaduct structures supported on extended cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) pile shafts was evaluated.
Pile foundations: Experimental investigations, analysis and design
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the installation technique on the bearing ca- pacity and the load-settlement response of a single pile are discussed, and the criteria for an optimum design, achieving maximum economy while keeping satisfactory performances, are compared for different kinds of pile foundations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nonlinear analysis of laterally loaded rigid piles in cohesionless soil
TL;DR: In this article, a nonlinear analysis of laterally loaded rigid piles in cohesionless soil is presented, which assumes that both the ultimate soil resistance and the modulus of horizontal subgrade reaction increase linearly with depth.

Pile Foundation Analysis and Design
Harry G. Poulos,E.H. Davis +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a consistent theoretical approach to the prediction of pile deformation and load capacity, and present parametric solutions for a wide range of cases, demonstrating how such solutions can be used for design purposes, and review the applicability of these approaches to practical problems.

Force at a Point in the Interior of a Semi-Infinite Solid
TL;DR: In this paper, a solution of the three-dimensional elasticity equations for a homogeneous isotropic solid is given for the case of a concentrated force acting in the interior of a semi-infinite solid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of coefficients of subgrade reaction
TL;DR: The theories of vertical and horizontal subgrade reaction are based on the simplifying assumptions that the subgrade obeys Hooke's law as mentioned in this paper, and that the reaction on the base of a rigi...
