Abstract
Introduction. Mathematical approximations have been used since ancient times to estimate solutions, but with the rise of digital computing the field of numerical analysis has become a discipline in its own right. Numerical analysts develop and study algorithms that provide approximate solutions to various types of numerical problems, and they analyze the accuracy, efficiency and robustness of these algorithms. As technology becomes ever more essential for the study of mathematics, learning algorithms that provide approximate solutions to mathematical problems and understanding the accuracy of such approximations becomes increasingly important. This report contains a description of the typical topics covered in a two-semester sequence in Numerical Analysis.

Analysis of the complex moving least squares approximation and the associated element-free Galerkin method

TL;DR: The complex element-free Galerkin method is a meshless method combined with the complex moving least squares approximation as mentioned in this paper, which is an efficient method to construct approximation functions in meshless methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Continuation of invariant subspaces

TL;DR: In this work, implementation and testing of an algorithm for continuation of invariant subspaces is considered and its application in reinforcement learning is considered.

Oxidation-derived flavor compounds as quality indicators for packaged olive oil

TL;DR: In this article, the identity and quantity of flavor compounds were determined for extra virgin olive oil packaged in 0.5-L glass, poly(ethylene terephthalate), and poly(vinyl chloride) bottles and stored at 15,30 and 40°C under fluorescent light or in the dark for 1 yr.

D- and T-optimum designs for the kinetics of a reversible chemical reaction

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors exemplify D-optimum designs for parameter estimation in the kinetics of a reversible chemical reaction and find T-optimal designs for model discrimination, as a method of determining the order of reaction.
