This report contains a description of the typical topics covered in a two-semester sequence in Numerical Analysis, and describes the accuracy, efficiency and robustness of these algorithms.
Abstract
Introduction. Mathematical approximations have been used since ancient times to estimate solutions, but with the rise of digital computing the field of numerical analysis has become a discipline in its own right. Numerical analysts develop and study algorithms that provide approximate solutions to various types of numerical problems, and they analyze the accuracy, efficiency and robustness of these algorithms. As technology becomes ever more essential for the study of mathematics, learning algorithms that provide approximate solutions to mathematical problems and understanding the accuracy of such approximations becomes increasingly important. This report contains a description of the typical topics covered in a two-semester sequence in Numerical Analysis.

Diffusion Basis Functions Decomposition for Estimating White Matter Intravoxel Fiber Geometry

TL;DR: This paper presents a new formulation for recovering the fiber tract geometry within a voxel from diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data, in the presence of single or multiple neuronal fibers, and defines a discrete set of diffusion basis functions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multilayer perceptron neural networks with novel unsupervised training method for numerical solution of the partial differential equations

TL;DR: Comparison of this method results with analytical solution and two well-known numerical methods, Runge-kutta and finite element, shows the efficiency of Neural Networks with high accuracy, fast convergence and low use of memory for solving the differential equations.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Operator Compact Implicit Method for Parabolic Equations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors trace out the broad characteristics of a class of higher order finite difference schemes which are applicable to the solution of parabolic partial differential equations associated with viscous fluid flow problems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improved fluorescence excitation-emission matrix regional integration to quantify spectra for fluorescent dissolved organic matter.

TL;DR: The experiments show that fluorescence matrix regional integration could underestimate the two aromatic protein fractions but could overestimate the soluble microbial byproduct-like and humic acid-like fractions if improper increment and integral methods are used.

Channel coordination and volume discounts with price-sensitive demand

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered a system consisting of a supplier and a buyer with demand that is price-sensitive and analyzed the problem as a Stackelberg game in which the supplier acts as the leader by announcing its pricing policy to the buyer in advance and the buyer acts as a follower by determining his unit selling price and thus annual sales volume is determined.
