TLDR
In this article, the finite element method is used to predict the performance of aerostatic thrust bearing with a complete porous surface, and results obtained by a 1D and 3D source flow model derived from D'Arcy's law are compared for rectangular porous bearings having an infinite width.

Effects of manufacturing errors on the static characteristics of aerostatic journal bearings with porous restrictor

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of manufacturing errors on the static performance of aerostatic porous journal bearings were investigated by solving the Darcy-Forchheimer law and Navier-Stokes equations.

Deformation and flying height orbit of glass sheets on aerostatic porous bearing guides

TL;DR: In this paper, the deformation behavior and the orbit of the flying height of glass sheets on porous bearing pads during the feeding process were investigated using the compressible Reynolds equation and Timoshenko's thin film theory.

Permeability and Inertial Coefficients of Porous Media for Air Bearing Feeding Systems

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental and theoretical investigation of porous resistances used in gas bearing and thrust pad supply systems is presented. And the results from set-up a) were then used to obtain experimental permeability and to determine the inertial coefficients, which were expressed as a function of the Reynolds number.

Effect of the deformation of porous materials on the performance of aerostatic bearings by fluid-solid interaction method

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of supply air pressure, material thickness, and Young's modulus on the deformation of aerostatic porous bearing is analyzed. And a double-layered porous restrictor is proposed to suppress deformation and various thickness combinations of double layers are also discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Frequency-dependent nonlinear dynamic stiffness of aerostatic bearings subjected to external perturbations

TL;DR: In this article, numerical simulations and experiments are carried out to investigate the influence of perturbations on the dynamic stiffness of aerostatic bearing spindles, while the journal bearing is used as frictionless guide way.

Boundary conditions at a naturally permeable wall

TL;DR: In this article, a simple theory based on replacing the effect of the boundary layer with a slip velocity proportional to the exterior velocity gradient is proposed and shown to be in reasonable agreement with experimental results.

Analysis of Narrow Porous Journal Bearing Using Beavers-Joseph Criterion of Velocity Slip

TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical solution for performance characteristics of a narrow journal bearing is obtained, taking account of the velocity slip at the surface of a porous medium by using Beavers-Joseph criterion.

The Flow of a Viscous Fluid through a Porous Wall into a Narrow Gap : A Consideration of the Slip of Fluid on a Porous Wall Surface

TL;DR: In this paper, an exact theoretical analysis for axi-symmetric flow of a viscous fluid through a porous wall into a narrow, uniform gap is presented. But the analysis is restricted to the case where the fluid may flow radially in the porous medium and slip on the porous wall surface.
