Book ChapterDOI

Molten globule and protein folding.

TL;DR: It is predicted and confirmed experimentally that the molten globule state can exist in a living cell and plays an important role in a number of physiological processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Viscosity, Sedimentation, et Cetera, of Ring- and Straight-Chain Polymers in Dilute Solution

TL;DR: The hydrodynamic properties of straight-chain and ring-chain polymers whose dimensions are expanded over those of similar Gaussian coils have been calculated by a perturbation method based on the normal-coordinate treatment with hydrodynamic interaction as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of free polymer on the stability of sterically stabilized dispersions

TL;DR: In this article, a first-approach theory is presented to account, in a semiquantitative manner, for the observed trends in behavior of weak flocculation behavior.

Journal ArticleDOI

Problems of the statistical thermodynamics of dilute polymer solutions

TL;DR: The current status of the statistical thermodynamics of dilute solutions of chain polymers is reviewed, with particular attention to the interactions between single chain molecules and solvents and to the mutul interactions of two chains.
Journal ArticleDOI

New Method for the Statistical Computation of Polymer Dimensions

TL;DR: In this article, a new method was described for the generation of excluded volume random walks of contour lengths comparable to those of real polymer molecules using a high speed electronic digital computer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dilute solutions of branched polymers

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of branching on observable physical properties of dilute polymers is discussed. But the focus of the paper is on the effects of branching in the context of polyvinyl stearate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theory of Dilute Polymer Solution. II. Osmotic Pressure and Frictional Properties

TL;DR: In this article, the osmotic second virial coefficient of flexible polymer solutions is calculated on the basis of the pearl-necklace model with continuous medium approximation, and proper account is taken not only of the intermolecular interaction but also of the intra-layer interaction of segments or the so-called excluded volume effect.
Journal ArticleDOI

Excluded Volume in Polymer Chains

TL;DR: In this article, a general formulation of the excluded volume effect in polymer chains is set up and compared with the theory of Markoff processes, and the results of preliminary numerical calculations for the relation between the mean square radius of the chain and the second virial coefficient, in good agreement with experiment, are given.
