TLDR
A trial is made to ascertain a comprehensive overview of acetone research extending discussion from chemistry to clinical implications and the possible future directions of research upon acetone are depicted by emphasizing the need for the clear-cut identification of mammalian acetoacetate decarboxylase, and the investigation of race differences and genetic background of acet one metabolism.

Determination of acetone in human breath by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and solid-phase microextraction with on-fiber derivatization.

TL;DR: The results show that GC-MS and SPME with on-fiber derivatization is a simple, rapid and sensitive and solvent-free method for determination of low concentration acetone in breath and analysis of breath acetone can be used as supplementary tool for diagnosis of diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI

A longitudinal study of ammonia, acetone and propanol in the exhaled breath of 30 subjects using selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry, SIFT-MS.

TL;DR: The findings indicate the potential value of SIFT-MS as a non-invasive breath analysis technique for investigating volatile compounds in human health and in the diseased state.

Chaperone-mediated autophagy in aging and disease.

TL;DR: Current findings on the molecular mechanisms for CMA are covered and the possible pathophysiological relevance of this selective lysosomal degradation is covered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Isoprene and acetone concentration profiles during exercise on an ergometer

TL;DR: Data appear to favor the hypothesis that short-term effects visible in breath isoprene levels are mainly caused by changes in pulmonary gas exchange patterns rather than fluctuations in endogenous synthesis, and hold great potential in capturing continuous dynamics of non-polar, low-soluble VOCs over a wide measurement range.
Journal ArticleDOI

Breath analysis in disease diagnosis: methodological considerations and applications.

TL;DR: This review describes recent scientific developments in basic research and clinical applications, namely issues concerning sampling and biochemistry, highlighting the diagnostic potential of breath analysis for disease diagnosis.

Methylglyoxal in living organisms: chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology and biological implications.

TL;DR: A comprehensive overview of methylglyoxal research, extending discussion from chemistry to biological implications by reviewing some important characteristics of methyl glyoxal metabolism and toxicity in a wide variety of species, and emphasizing the action of methyl-oxoaldehyde production in the environment as a potential risk factor and to the possible role of this a-dicarbonyl in diseases as discussed by the authors.

Range-Finding Toxicity Data: List VII

TL;DR: In this article, acute toxicity and irritation data on about 200 compounds are presented, accumulated in a continuing program for screening potential commercial products, and the authors present a detailed discussion of the results.
