Poverty and inequality in Java: examining the impact of the changing age, educational and industrial structure

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the method of DiNardo et al. to examine the distribution of the benefits of growth in Java and found that the change in per capita income between 1984 and 1990 is related to the aging of the population, decreased reliance on agriculture, increased educational attainment and changes in incomes within industry and age/education categories.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Wealth Inequality of Nations

TL;DR: In contrast, no such framework and much less empirical evidence have been provided by as mentioned in this paper to study the institutional determinants of income stratification in the United States, and no such analysis has been conducted in other countries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Do we need a separate poverty measurement

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that a poverty index can be derived from a decomposition of an appropriate inequality index and illustrate the kind of policy analysis that can be performed with a decomposed inequality index by decomposing the Gini coefficient into Sen's poverty index and other components.
Book ChapterDOI

Comparing Multidimensional Indices of Inequality: methods and application

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined several measures of multidimensional inequality, analysing their properties and majorization criteria, and presented a new measure which generalises Bourguignon (1999) and includes Tsui measures (1999), while preserving the advantages of Maasoumi's method.

Beyond Oaxaca-Blinder : accounting for differences in household income distributions across countries

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a micro-econometric method to account for differences across distributions of household income by decomposing differences between functionals of two income distributions into shares because of differences in the structure of labor market returns, differences in occupational structure, and differences in underlying distribution of assets.

The Efficiency Analysis of Choices Involving Risk

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of the first step of the decision-making process of an individual decision maker among alternative risky ventures is presented, in terms of a single dimension such as money, both for the utility functions and for the probability distributions.
