Inequality of opportunity for educational achievement in Latin America: Evidence from PISA 2006–2009

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate how far away six Latin American countries stand from a normative goal of equality of opportunity for educational achievement in PISA 2006-2009 and find that inequality of opportunity in Latin America ranges from less than 1% to up to 25%, depending on the year, the country, the subject and the specification of circumstances.

A nonparametric elicitation of the equity-efficiency trade-off in cost-utility analysis.

TL;DR: An empirical elicitation of the equity-efficiency trade-off in cost-utility analysis using the rank-dependent quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) model and observes a preference for equality in the allocation of health.
Journal ArticleDOI

A class of generalized measures of mobility with applications

TL;DR: A class of anonymous measures of mobility is defined that considers the relationship between the long-run and short-run distributions of income and inequality.

The Use of Summation to Aggregate Software Metrics Hinders the Performance of Defect Prediction Models

TL;DR: An analysis of 11 aggregation schemes using data collected from 255 open source projects finds that aggregation schemes can significantly alter correlations among metrics, as well as the correlations between metrics and the defect count.

14 Probability distributions for financial models

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of probability distributions that have been and can be applied to problems arising in finance and examines some of these applications is presented. But, while the normal or lognormal distributions may provide an adequate representation for many financial series, other series are not so conveniently modeled.

Risk Aversion in the Small and in the Large

John W. Pratt
- 01 Jan 1964 -
TL;DR: In this article, a measure of risk aversion in the small, the risk premium or insurance premium for an arbitrary risk, and a natural concept of decreasing risk aversion are discussed and related to one another.

TL;DR: JSTOR as discussed by the authors is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1995 to build trusted digital archives for scholarship, which is used to preserve their work and the materials they rely upon, and to build a common research platform that promotes the discovery and use of these resources.

The Efficiency Analysis of Choices Involving Risk

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of the first step of the decision-making process of an individual decision maker among alternative risky ventures is presented, in terms of a single dimension such as money, both for the utility functions and for the probability distributions.
