Passive Control of Transonic Flow over a Blunt Body Using Aerospikes
TLDR
In this paper, it was shown that blunt nose cones used in launch vehicles can excite buffet due to shock oscillations over the payload fairing on the leeward side at transonic Mach numbers and small angles of attack.Abstract:

Impact angle constrained fuzzy adaptive fault tolerant IGC method for Ski-to-Turn missiles with unsteady aerodynamics and multiple disturbances
TL;DR: In this paper , an impact angle constrained fuzzy adaptive fault tolerant integrated guidance and control method for Ski-to-Turn (STT) missiles subject to unsteady aerodynamics and multiple disturbances is proposed.

Effect of Aerospike on Unsteady Transonic Flow over a Blunt Body
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that blunt-nosed launch vehicles featuring large nose-cone angles experience high levels of pressure fluctuations over the payload region at transonic Mach numbers due to shock-wave/boundary-layer inter...

Recent advances in the aerothermodynamics of spiked hypersonic vehicles
M. Y. M. Ahmed,Ning Qin +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of the use of spikes for reducing both the drag and the aeroheating by modifying the flowfield ahead of the vehicle's nose.

Metamodels for aerothermodynamic design optimization of hypersonic spiked blunt bodies
M. Y. M. Ahmed,Ning Qin +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the evolutionary genetic algorithm is applied to find the optimum design based on each of the surrogates for these two objectives, which produced 92% and 13% reduction in drag and wall temperature responses, respectively.

Pressure fluctuations resulting from an alternating flow separation and attachment at transonic speeds
H. L. Chevalier,J. E. Robertson +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a detailed analysis of the alternating separation and attachment flow phenomenon that occurs at the shoulder of the cone-cylinder was presented, which indicated that from the static pressure distributions, one may determine the regions of the model to be subjected to unsteady loads, the free-stream Mach number at which this will occur, and the peak-to-peak and root mean square amplitude of these loads.
