TLDR
In this paper, the different approaches to improve and enhance the energy density of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) materials are presented, and the energy efficiency of these materials is evaluated.
Abstract
The high breakdown strength and dipole density in polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) suggest potential high energy density achieved in this class of materials, which is highly desirable and even required in many modern compact and high performance electronics and electric systems. However, due to the large remnant polarization, PVDF only exhibits an energy density of ~2–4J/cm3. In this paper, the different approaches to improve and enhance the energy density in this class of materials will be present.

Effect of Annealing Temperature on the Crystallinity, Morphology and Ferroelectric of Polyvinylidenefluoride- Trifluoroethylene (PVDF-TrFE) Thin Film

TL;DR: The annealing temperature for 250 nm spin-coated thin films were varied at solvent evaporation (Ts = 79 °C), Curies transition (Tc= 113 °C) and till melting temperature (Tm = 154 °C). XRD measurement showed that, there was an improvement in the crystallinity of the annealed films, consistent with the increased in the annesaling temperatures as mentioned in this paper.

A Dielectric Polymer with High Electric Energy Density and Fast Discharge Speed

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a very high energy density with fast discharge speed and low loss can be obtained in defect-modified poly(vinylidene fluoride) polymers by combining nonpolar and polar molecular structural changes of the polymer with the proper dielectric constants.

Giant Electrostriction and Relaxor Ferroelectric Behavior in Electron-Irradiated Poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) Copolymer

TL;DR: An exceptionally high electrostrictive response was observed in electron-irradiated poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF-TrFE)] copolymer, suggesting that the electron irradiation breaks up the coherent polarization domain in normal ferroelectric P( VDF- TrFE)Copolymer into nanopolar regions that transform the material into a relaxor ferroElectric.
