Age-specific global epidemiology of hydrocephalus: Systematic review, metanalysis and global birth surveillance

TL;DR: While high-income countries had a lower hydrocephalus incidence according to the ICBDSR registry, folate fortification status was not associated with incidence, and the findings may inform future healthcare resource allocation and study.

Metal contamination and the epidemic of congenital birth defects in Iraqi cities.

TL;DR: The data suggested that birth defects in the Iraqi cities of Al Basrah and Fallujah are mainly folate-dependent, and this knowledge offers possible treatment options and remediation plans for at-risk Iraqi populations.

The role of endoscopic third ventriculostomy in the treatment of hydrocephalus.

TL;DR: Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is a novel treatment for select forms of hydrocephalus that can eliminate the need for implantation of a lifelong ventricular shunt system and its long-term effectiveness is not well established.

Two novel CCDC88C mutations confirm the role of DAPLE in autosomal recessive congenital hydrocephalus

TL;DR: The data validate CCDC88C as causing autosomal recessive, primary non-syndromic congenital hydrocephalus, and underscore the important role of the C-terminal PDZ domain-binding motif in the DAPLE protein.
