TLDR
In this article, the effectiveness of corticosteroids to prevent left ventricular (LV) remodeling and improve LV contractility was evaluated in patients with cardiac sarcoidosis.
Abstract
Forty-three patients with cardiac sarcoidosis were studied echocardiographically before and after (mean follow-up 88 months) steroid therapy to determine the effectiveness of corticosteroids to prevent left ventricular (LV) remodeling and improve LV contractility. In patients with initial LV ejection fractions (LVEFs) ≥55%, long-term steroid therapy showed preventive effects for LV remodeling and LV function. Patients with LVEF

Cardiac sarcoidosis: epidemiology, characteristics, and outcome over 25 years in a nationwide study.

TL;DR: In this article, a study was designed to assess the epidemiology, characteristics and outcome of cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) in Finland by identifying all adult (>18 yr) patients diagnosed with histologically confirmed CS in Finland between 1988 and 2012.

Review ArticleCardiac sarcoidosis

TL;DR: All patients diagnosed with sarcoidosis should be screened for cardiac involvement and patients with CS and symptoms such as syncope need an aggressive workup for a potentially life-threatening etiology, and often require implantable cardioverter-defibrillator therapy.

Cardiac sarcoidosis: a comprehensive review.

TL;DR: Considering the increased risk of sudden death, cardiac sarcoidosis is an indication for early treatment with corticosteroids or other immunosuppressive agents, and in refractory cases, cardiac transplantation should be considered.

Reduction in 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake on serial cardiac positron emission tomography is associated with improved left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with cardiac sarcoidosis

TL;DR: In a longitudinal cohort of CS patients, a reduction in the intensity and extent of myocardial inflammation on FDG PET is associated with improvement in EF, and serial PET scanning may help guide titration of immunosuppressive therapy to improve or prevent heart failure in CS.

Prognostic determinants of long-term survival in Japanese patients with cardiac sarcoidosis treated with prednisone

TL;DR: The severity of heart failure was one of the most significant independent predictors of mortality for cardiac sarcoidosis and starting corticosteroids before the occurrence of systolic dysfunction resulted in an excellent clinical outcome.

Histologic diagnostic rate of cardiac sarcoidosis: Evaluation of endomyocardial biopsies

TL;DR: The diagnostic rate achieved with biopsy in cardiac sarcoidosis is low; the patients with sarcoIDosis and evidence of significant cardiac involvement should be treated for cardiac sarCOidosis despite negative myocardial biopsies for this disease.
