Experimental study on fall velocity of fine sediment in the Yangtze Estuary, China
TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper showed that suspended sediment concentration (SSC), salinity and temperature all affect the fall velocity of fine sediment, but to different extents, and that the relationship between the FV of estuarine fine sediments and its determinants are highly dependent upon specific environmental conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sediment trend models fail to reproduce small-scale sediment transport patterns on an intertidal beach
TL;DR: In this article, a rigorous test of the application of sediment trend models to an intertidal beach environment characterized by bar morphology is presented, where sediment samples were collected during low tide from a regular grid and their sediment fall velocity distributions, obtained using a settling tube, were analyzed using moment analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morphodynamic assessment of side channel systems using a simple one‐dimensional bifurcation model and a comparison with aerial images
R. Pepijn van Denderen,Ralph Mathias Johannes Schielen,Ralph Mathias Johannes Schielen,Astrid Blom,Suzanne J.M.H. Hulscher,Maarten G. Kleinhans +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a one-dimensional bifurcation model to predict the development of side channel systems and the characteristic timescales of the associated morphological change.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wave-driven sediment resuspension and salt marsh frontal erosion alter the export of sediments from macro-tidal estuaries
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of wind waves and salt marsh erosion on sediment transport dynamics of macro-tidal estuarine systems has been examined using a numerical model, showing that wave action at the landward margin of the estuary is limited by the shallow water depth, and tidally induced increments in water depth only cause a modest increase in wave shear stresses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stormwater contamination of urban estuaries. 1. Predicting the build-up of heavy metals in sediments
TL;DR: In this article, a model was developed to predict the build-up of contaminants (Pb, Zn, and Cu) in the sediments of sheltered estuaries.
