Journal ArticleDOI

Modal analysis of the propeller wake under the heavy loading condition

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper investigated the wake instability of a propeller operating under the heavy loading condition and employed proper orthogonal decomposition and dynamic mode decomposition to identify the modes that play dominant roles in the destabilization physics of the propeller wake.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of the odd and even number of blades on the hydrodynamic performance of a pre-swirl pumpjet propulsor

TL;DR: In this paper , the effects of the odd and even number of rotor/stator blades on the hydrodynamic performance of a pre-swirl pumpjet propulsor (PJP) were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modal analysis of non-ducted and ducted propeller wake under axis flow

TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigate the wake dynamics and destabilisation mechanisms of a four-bladed marine propeller with or without a nozzle and show that the presence of a nozzle significantly reduces the wake's streamwise velocity, delays the wake destabilisation, increases the wake length, and changes the morphologies of wake vortices.

Quantification of uncertainty in computational fluid dynamics

TL;DR: This review covers Verification, Validation, Confirmation and related subjects for computational fluid dynamics (CFD), including error taxonomies, error estimation and banding, convergence rates, surrogate estimators, nonlinear dynamics, and error estimation for grid adaptation vs Quantification of Uncertainty.
Journal ArticleDOI

A hybrid RANS-LES approach with delayed-DES and wall-modelled LES capabilities

TL;DR: In this article, a CFD strategy is proposed that combines delayed detached-eddy simulation (DDES) with an improved RANS-LES hybrid model aimed at wall modelling in LES (WMLES).
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanisms of evolution of the propeller wake in the transition and far fields

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the mechanisms of evolution of propeller tip and hub vortices in the transitional region and the far field of three propellers having the same blade geometry but different number of blades.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stability of helical tip vortices in a rotor far wake

TL;DR: In this article, the authors extended the analysis to include an assigned vorticity field due to root vortices and the hub of the rotor, and showed that the stability of the tip vortex is largely dependent on the radial extent of the hub vortivity as well as on the type of vortex distribution.
