TLDR
Results indicate that hematite minimized the overall extent of pyrite oxidation, but the kinetic model could not explain how this suppression occurred.About:

A review of recent strategies for acid mine drainage prevention and mine tailings recycling.
Ilhwan Park,Carlito Baltazar Tabelin,Sanghee Jeon,Xinlong Li,Kensuke Seno,Mayumi Ito,Naoki Hiroyoshi +6 more
TL;DR: In this review, recent advances in AMD prevention techniques like oxygen barriers, utilization of bactericides, co-disposal and blending, and passivation of sulfide minerals are discussed and recycling of mine tailings as construction and geopolymer materials to reduce the amounts of wastes for disposal are introduced.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arsenic, selenium, boron, lead, cadmium, copper, and zinc in naturally contaminated rocks: A review of their sources, modes of enrichment, mechanisms of release, and mitigation strategies.
Carlito Baltazar Tabelin,Toshifumi Igarashi,Mylah Villacorte-Tabelin,Ilhwan Park,Einstine M. Opiso,Mayumi Ito,Naoki Hiroyoshi +6 more
TL;DR: This review summarized all available studies in the literature about the factors and processes crucial in the enrichment, release, and migration of the most commonly encountered hazardous and toxic elements in naturally contaminated geological materials to focus on naturally contaminated rocks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms for cadmium adsorption by magnetic biochar composites in an aqueous solution.
TL;DR: Biochar modification methods with ferric nitrate impregnation provide an excellent approach to eliminating Cd(II) from aqueous solutions and the results indicated that the biochars successfully carried iron particles within, which improved the specific surface area, formed inner-sphere complexes with oxygen- containing groups, and increased the number of oxygen-containing groups.

Acid mine drainage formation and arsenic mobility under strongly acidic conditions: Importance of soluble phases, iron oxyhydroxides/oxides and nature of oxidation layer on pyrite
Carlito Baltazar Tabelin,Ryan D. Corpuz,Toshifumi Igarashi,Mylah Villacorte-Tabelin,Richard Diaz Alorro,Kyoungkeun Yoo,Simit Raval,Mayumi Ito,Naoki Hiroyoshi +8 more
TL;DR: This study observed the formation of a mechanically 'strong' coating on pyrite that suppressed the mineral's oxidation, and found that As mobility under acidic conditions was limited by its precipitation as ferric arsenate, scorodite, or a Fe/Al arsenate phase, including its strong adsorption to Fe-oxyhydroxides/oxides.

Towards a low-carbon society: A review of lithium resource availability, challenges and innovations in mining, extraction and recycling, and future perspectives
Carlito Baltazar Tabelin,J.A. Dallas,Sophia Casanova,Timothy M. Pelech,Ghislain Bournival,Serkan Saydam,Ismet Canbulat +6 more
TL;DR: The demand for lithium has skyrocketed in recent years primarily due to three international treaties (Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals) as mentioned in this paper, all of which are pushing for the integration of more renewable energy and clean storage technologies in the transportation and electric power sectors to curb CO2 emissions and limit the adverse effects of CO2-promoted climate change.
