Abstract
The paper draws lessons from our empirical investigations in Germany, Italy and England/Wales in a very specific perspective: It formulates recommendations for flood risk management with people at risk Thus it tries to shed light on the views of this important – but often neglected – group of stakeholders Our addressees are flood risk management professionals, such as flood-practitioners and policy makers at European, national, regional and local levels The recommendations relate to the following fields: flood risk awareness, flood preparedness, flood risk communication, participation in flood risk management and social vulnerability

Models of best practice in flood risk communication and management

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify four broad models, or approaches, to risk communication: a risk message model of information transfer, a risk instrument model of behavioural change; a risk dialogue model of participatory deliberation; and a risk government model of self-regulation and normalization.

Collaborative modelling for active involvement of stakeholders in urban flood risk management

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an approach to enhance the role of local stakeholders in dealing with urban floods based on the DIANE-CM project (Decentralised Integrated Analysis and Enhancement of Awareness through Collaborative Modelling and Management of Flood Risk) of the 2nd ERANET CRUE funding initiative.

PRIMo: Parallel raster inundation model

TL;DR: The Parallel Raster Inundation Model (PRIMo) solves the shallow-water equations on an upscaled grid that is far coarser than the underlying raster digital topographic model (DTM), and uses a subgrid modeling approach so that the solution benefits from DTM-scale topographic data.

Addressing Pluvial Flash Flooding through Community-Based Collaborative Research in Tijuana, Mexico

TL;DR: In this article, a set of flood hazard maps accessible through an online viewer that end-users found useful and useable for understanding PFF threats, including debris blockages and barriers to mobility and evacuation.

Advances in flood risk management from the FLOODsite project

TL;DR: The future management of flood risk will not come from a single technical solution or policy but from a range of responses which are tuned to the specific circumstances at a local or regional scale, taking account of national governance structures and public attitudes towards flood risks.
