Improving the surface hardness of zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA) composites by surface treatment with a boehmite sol

TL;DR: In this article, the hardness of a zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA) composite was improved by surface treatments with a boehmite sol, which led to a significant increase in the surface hardness of the ZTA composite.

Preparation and characterization of multilayer mesoporous alumina nano membrane via sol–gel method using new precursors

TL;DR: In this paper, a mesoporous γ-alumina layer was coated on a macroporous α alumina support via sol-gel method to produce a multilayer mesophorous alumina membrane with high performance Different parameters like homogeneity of colloidal solution, additive, working temperature, roughness of the membrane surface, membrane thickness and porosity were analyzed.

Alumina gels that form porous transparent Al2O3

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the requirements for a porous transparent Al2O3 from aluminium alkoxides to retain its integrity during drying and pyrolysis, and show that there is a critical electrolyte concentration at which the gelling volume goes through a pronounced minimum.

Controlled Transformation and Sintering of a Boehmite Sol-Gel by α-Alumina Seeding

TL;DR: In this article, the transformation, microstructural development, and densification of an α-alumina-seeded boehmite sol-gel was studied, and α-Alumina particles are shown to act as nuclei for the trans-formation of θ- to α- alumina and to result in an increase in the transformation kinetics and lowering of the transformation temperature by as much as 170°C.

Alpha Alumina Formation in Alum‐Derived Gamma Alumina

TL;DR: In this paper, the formation of alpha alumina in gamma alumina obtained from ammonium alum was studied at 1150°C, where the transformation occurs by a nucleation and growth process, preceded by an incubation time.
