Reply to criticism of the ‘Orch OR qubit’ – ‘Orchestrated objective reduction’ is scientifically justified

TLDR
The critical commentary by Reimers et al. as discussed by the authors is largely uninformed and basically incorrect, as they solely criticize non-existent features of Orch OR, and ignore (1) actual ORch OR features, (2) supportive evidence, and (3) previous answers to their objections.

Reply to seven commentaries on “Consciousness in the universe: Review of the ‘Orch OR’ theory”

TL;DR: In Orch OR, consciousness is a particular manifestation of life’s quantum activity in these channels, involving ‘orchestrated’ quantum coherent superpositions that persist sufficiently to reach the physical threshold for ‘objective reduction’.
Journal ArticleDOI

A New Spin on Neural Processing: Quantum Cognition.

TL;DR: There is increasing evidence that quantum mechanics is important for understanding some biological phenomena, such as energy transfer in photosynthesis, navigation by birds using the earth's magnetic field, and electron and hydrogen tunneling in biochemical reactions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fundamental awareness: A framework for integrating science, philosophy and metaphysics.

TL;DR: The ontologic framework of Fundamental Awareness proposed here assumes that non-dual Awareness is foundational to the universe, not arising from the interactions or structures of higher level phenomena, and allows comparison and integration of views from the three investigative domains concerned with understanding the nature of consciousness.
BookDOI

Consciousness in the universe an updated review of the "Orch OR" theory

TL;DR: It is concluded that consciousness plays an intrinsic role in the universe, in light of criticisms and developments in quantum biology, neuroscience, physics and cosmology.
Book ChapterDOI

Biophysics of Consciousness: A Scale-Invariant Acoustic Information Code of a Superfluid Quantum Space Guides the Mental Attribute of the Universe

TL;DR: In this article, the authors postulate an integral concept of information processing in the universe, on the basis of a new biophysical principle, coined the generalized music (GM)-scale of EMF frequencies.

Structure of the alpha beta tubulin dimer by electron crystallography.

TL;DR: An atomic model of the αβ tubulin dimer fitted to a 3.7-Å density map obtained by electron crystallography of zinc-induced tubulin sheets is presented.

Long-range coherence and energy storage in biological systems

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that if energy is supplied above a certain mean rate to such a branch, then a steady state will be reached in which a single mode of this branch is very strongly excited.

Orchestrated reduction of quantum coherence in brain microtubules: a model for consciousness

TL;DR: This paper proposes that aspects of quantum theory and a newly proposed physical phenomenon of quantum wave function “self-collapse” are essential for consciousness, and occur in cytoskeletal microtubules and other structures within each of the brain's neurons, and proposes Orch OR in brain microtubule, the most specific and plausible model for consciousness yet proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conscious Events as Orchestrated Space-Time Selections

TL;DR: In this article, the authors employ a new physics of objective reduction, which appeals to a form of quantum gravity to provide a useful description of fundamental processes at the quantum/classical borderline.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantum computation in brain microtubules: decoherence and biological feasibility.

TL;DR: In this article, the decoherence mechanisms likely to dominate in a biological setting were examined, and it was shown that a hybrid of the Penrose-Hameroff orchestrated objective reduction (orch. OR) model with a soliton in superposition along the microtubule can significantly increase the quantum coherence of microtubules.
