Exploring Multiscale Influence of Urban Growth on Landscape Patterns of Two Emerging Urban Centers in the Western Himalaya
TL;DR: In this article , the authors quantify land use/land cover and landscape pattern dynamics in response to urban growth and expansion in and around two emerging urban centers (Dharamsala and Pithoragarh, Western Himalaya) over the past two decades.

Infrastructure and regional growth, growth dynamics and policy relevance for India
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine the contribution of publicly supplied infrastructure to sub national regional growth in India and find that transport and communications infrastructure expenditures are significant determinants of regional growth, and the positive benefits accruing from these expenditures come not only from investments made by individual states, but there are positive externalities from network expenditures made by neighboring states.

Post-Frontier Forest Change Adjacent to Braulio Carrillo National Park, Costa Rica
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a case study from a national park buffer zone in Costa Rica and find that despite government reforestation and forest protection programs and changes in rural people's attitudes favoring forest conservation, there has been only slight detectable forest recovery in satellite imagery and that forest fragmentation continued even in remote rural areas near BCNP with stable or shrinking population.

Spectral and spatial quality analysis of pan-sharpening algorithms: A case study in Istanbul
TL;DR: In this article, the performance of four different image pan-sharpening methods, the Brovey the Gram-Schmidt (GS), the Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS), and the Principle Component Analysis (PCA), are investigated based on spectral and spatial distortions.

TL;DR: The authors analyzed land fragmentation trends from 1992 to 2001 in five southwestern cities associated with Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and observed two general fragmentation trends: expansion of the urbanized area leading to and expansion of rural areas leading to land fragmentation.

New highways and land use change: Results from a quasi-experimental research design
TL;DR: In this article, a lagged adjustment regional growth model was incorporated into a quasi-experimental research design to examine the association between new highway investments and land use change in three California counties.
