TLDR
A new approach is proposed that uses measurements of vessel diameters and branching angles as a validation criterion to compare the authors' segmented images with those hand segmented from public databases, and demonstrated that borders found by the method are less biased and follow more consistently the border of the vessel and therefore they yield more confident geometric values.

A New Supervised Method for Blood Vessel Segmentation in Retinal Images by Using Gray-Level and Moment Invariants-Based Features

TL;DR: A neural network scheme for pixel classification and computes a 7-D vector composed of gray-level and moment invariants-based features for pixel representation that is suitable for retinal image computer analyses such as automated screening for early diabetic retinopathy detection.

Trainable COSFIRE filters for vessel delineation with application to retinal images

TL;DR: A novel method for the automatic segmentation of vessel trees in retinal fundus images by summing up the responses of the two rotation-invariant B-COSFIRE filters followed by thresholding is introduced.

Retinal vessel extraction by matched filter with first-order derivative of Gaussian

TL;DR: This paper proposes a novel extension of the MF approach, namely the MF-FDOG, to detect retinal blood vessels, and achieves competitive vessel detection results as compared with those state-of-the-art schemes but with much lower complexity.
