Journal ArticleDOI

Sexual differentiation of the central nervous system

TL;DR: In many higher vertebrates, an integral part of this process is the induction of permanent and essentially irreversible sex differences in central nervous function, in response to gonadal hormones secreted early in development.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sexual differentiation of the brain.

TL;DR: This book is very referred for you because it gives not only the experience but also lesson, that's not about who are reading this sexual differentiation of the brain book but about this book that will give wellness for all people from many societies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Organizational and activational effects of sex steroids on brain and behavior: A reanalysis

TL;DR: Experimental results have accumulated which do not fit a simple two-process theory, and considerations blur the organizational-activational distinction sufficiently to suggest that a rigid dichotomy is no longer tenable.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estradiol and the Developing Brain

TL;DR: The introduction of endocrine disrupting compounds into the environment that mimic or alter the actions of estradiol has generated considerable concern, and the developing brain is a particularly sensitive target.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of brain aromatase cytochrome P450

TL;DR: It is clear that molecular mechanism(s) account for the diverse expression of aromatase in different neural tissue sites and during various physiological states or developmental periods and further study is necessary in order to understand the significance of the regulation of local estrogen biosynthesis by the arom atase cytochrome P450 gene during prenatal and postnatal development.

Evidence for a morphological sex difference within the medial preoptic area of the rat brain.

TL;DR: The present report demonstrates the existence of a marked sexual difference in the volume of an intensely staining cellular component of the medial preoptic nucleus (MPON) of the rat and shows a possible morphological basis for the sexual differentiation of brain function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sexual dimorphism in the neuropil of the preoptic area of the rat and its dependence on neonatal androgen.

G. Raisman, +1 more
- 17 May 1973 -
TL;DR: In normal females the number of non-amygdaloid synapses on dendritic spines in the preoptic area is higher than in the male, and the suggestion that this difference could be related to the ability of the female to maintain a cyclic pattern of gonadotrophin release and/or behavioural oestrus is supported by published work implicating the pre optic area in the control of ovulation and mating behaviour.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sex differences in dendritic patterns in hamster preoptic area.

TL;DR: Results suggest sex differences in the afferent inputs to neurons in the dorsomedial preoptic area which may be related to functional sexual dimorphism in physiology and behavior.
