TLDR
Using the variance measure of duration, it was shown that the duration of a signal is composed of two terms as mentioned in this paper, i.e., the duration in the zero-phase equivalent signal, and the variance of the phase derivative of the Fourier transformed signal.
Abstract
Using the variance measure of duration, it is shown that the duration of a signal is composed of two terms. The first term is the duration of the zero-phase equivalent signal, and the second term is the variance of the phase derivative of the Fourier transformed signal.

Efficient nonlinear algorithm for envelope detection in white light interferometry

TL;DR: The new algorithm is shown to be near optimal in terms of computational efficiency and can be represented as a second-order nonlinear filter and in combination with a carefully designed peak detection method the algorithm exhibits exceptionally good performance on simulated interferograms.

Defining the effective radius of curvature for a nonideal optical beam

TL;DR: In this article, a simple expression is given for evaluating the effective or average radius of curvature R(z) of an arbitrarily wrinkled, distorted, or nondiffraction-limited optical beam.

Apparatus for measuring the mode quality of a laser beam

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for determining the quality of a multimode laser beam was proposed. But the beam quality was not evaluated. And the beam diameter was not determined.

A dispersive model for the propagation of ultrasound in soft tissue

TL;DR: In this article, a minimum-phase function was derived using the Hilbert transform, which was incorporated into a tissue model which has a causal impulse response and from which accurate estimates of the slope of attenuation times path length can be extracted.

Focal shift, optical transfer function, and phase-space representations

TL;DR: The focal shift for a lens of finite value of Fresnel number can be defined in terms of the second moment of the intensity distribution in transverse planes and the uncertainty principle is discussed, including the significance of the beam propagation factor M2 and the width of optical fiber beam modes.

Phase in speech and pictures

TL;DR: A similar experiment has been carried out with speech, showing that preservation of only the long-time phase retains many important features of the original speech.

New Technique For Blind Deconvolution

TL;DR: In this article, the spectral magnitude of the image is smoothed by averaging over an ensemble of similar images and the estimate can be extended to degradations such as a defocused lens by thresholding the estimation magnitude to obtain zero crossings and adjusting the phase accordingly.
