TLDR
In this article, the temperature behavior of the splay and bend elastic constants measured for n-hexyloxycyanobiphenyl and noctyloxycyclanobinhibenyl mixtures was analyzed.
Abstract
The paper presents temperature behavior of the splay and bend elastic constants measured for n-hexyloxycyanobiphenyl and noctyloxycyanobiphenyl mixtures — a system exhibiting the re-entrant nematic phase. It was shown that singularities in the elastic properties of the system concern not only the nematic phase (the well-known pre-smectic effects) but first of all — the smectic A phase, in which the splay and bend deformations, normally not allowed for the layered structures, can be induced.

Optical, dielectric and visco-elastic properties of a few hockey stick-shaped liquid crystals with a lateral methyl group

TL;DR: In this paper, the rotational viscosity coefficient of a few hockey stick-shaped compounds 4-(3n-alkyloxy-2-methyl-phenyliminomethyl)phenyl 4-nalkyloxyloxycinnamates with a lateral methyl group inserted between the malkylope chain and the azomethine connecting group was measured.

Rotational viscosity measurements of bent-core nematogens

TL;DR: In this paper, two simple but precise probing methods have been utilized to investigate the influence of structure, properties and molecular association on the director response time (τ0) and hence on the rotational viscosity (γ1) in the nematic phase of three 4-cyanoresorcinol bent-core derivatives (1/7, 1/9 and 1/10) having different terminal chain lengths.

New Liquid-Crystal Phase Diagram

TL;DR: The nematic phase occurs at both a higher and a lower temperature than the smectic phase as mentioned in this paper, and measurements of the bend elastic constant as a function of concentration are presented.
