Abstract
The problem of searching the set of keys in a file to find a key which is closest to a given query key is discussed. After “closest,” in terms of a metric on the the key space, is suitably defined, three file structures are presented together with their corresponding search algorithms, which are intended to reduce the number of comparisons required to achieve the desired result. These methods are derived using certain inequalities satisfied by metrics and by graph-theoretic concepts. Some empirical results are presented which compare the efficiency of the methods.

Method of indexed storage and retrieval of multidimensional information

TL;DR: In this paper, a tree-structured index to multidimensional data is created using naturally occurring patterns and clusters within the data which permit efficient search and retrieval strategies in a database of DNA profiles.

Analysis of an Algorithm for Finding Nearest Neighbors in Euclidean Space

TL;DR: An analysis of Elias's algorithm for finding nearest nmghbors is made in n-dimensional Euclidean space and a lower bound corresponding to spherical partitions as obtained where the executmn tune increases exponentmlly with increasing dimensmn.

A scalable re-ranking method for content-based image retrieval

TL;DR: A novel approach for the re-ranking problem that relies on the similarity of top-k lists produced by efficient indexing structures, instead of using distance information from the entire collection, which makes it suitable for large collections.

Visual information retrieval system via content-based approach

TL;DR: A content-based image retrieval method that can search large image databases efficiently by color, texture, and shape content is proposed and it is found that the proposed method reduces calculation up to average 92.2 percent of the images from direct comparison.
