Static pickup and delivery problems: a classification scheme and survey

TLDR
A general framework to model a large collection of pickup and delivery problems, as well as a three-field classification scheme for these problems, is introduced.
Abstract
Pickup and delivery problems constitute an important class of vehicle routing problems in which objects or people have to be collected and distributed. This paper introduces a general framework to model a large collection of pickup and delivery problems, as well as a three-field classification scheme for these problems. It surveys the methods used for solving them.

Models for the single-vehicle preemptive pickup and delivery problem

TL;DR: This paper studies a variant of the well-known single-vehicle pickup and delivery problem where the demands can be unloaded/reloaded at any node and shows that the associated linear relaxations are polynomial-time solvable.

A scheme for determining vehicle routes based on Arc-based service network design

TL;DR: Experimental results on benchmark instances for service network design indicate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme which gives high-quality solutions in an efficient way.

SMART Heuristic for Pickup and Delivery Problem (PDP) with Cooperative UAVs

TL;DR: This research is to develop an alternate heuristic algorithm that can perform near optimally and scales as the problem gets more complicated, and has shown that it reaches this performance metric while requiring a significantly reduced computational time when compared to the time needed to obtain the optimal solution.

A Bi-Objective Vehicle-Routing Problem with Soft Time Windows and Multiple Depots to Minimize the Total Energy Consumption and Customer Dissatisfaction

TL;DR: In this paper, a bi-objective vehicle-routing problem with soft time windows and multiple depots was investigated, which aims to simultaneously minimize total energy consumption and customer dissatisfaction.

A Multi Depot Simultaneous Pickup and Delivery Problem with Balanced Allocation of Routes to Drivers

TL;DR: In this article, a new mathematical model is developed for a multi-depot vehicle routing problem with simultaneous pickup and delivery, where a non-homogenous fleet of vehicles and a number of drivers with different levels of capability are employed to service customers with pickup/delivery demands.

Computers and Intractability: A Guide to the Theory of NP-Completeness

TL;DR: The second edition of a quarterly column as discussed by the authors provides a continuing update to the list of problems (NP-complete and harder) presented by M. R. Self-organized formation of topologically correct feature maps

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a self-organizing system in which the signal representations are automatically mapped onto a set of output responses in such a way that the responses acquire the same topological order as that of the primary events.
